Ofcom's new report came out this morning and makes interesting reading. The headlines are more online services especially in mobile but TV viewing still holding up well.
TV:The balance of funding in TV is continuing to change from ad funded to subscription £3.5 bn adv Vs £4.3bn in Subs. DTV is now in 87.1% of homes Q108, importantly 67.5% of all TV are now digial, and 0% of new TV sets are HD!.
PVRs are in 23% of homes, more than anyone predicted 5 years ago, but they only generate about a 2.5% loss in ad impacts ( using quite a rough calculation). It looks like we should reach 30% penetrations of PVRs by the end of the year , we originally forecast this number in 2011.
Content: Around 2.1 m hours of content were broadcast last year in the UK, only about 10% new UK originated content the rest was repeats and acquisitions.
Radio is becoming increasingly less local with listening moving to national stations.
Advertising: Online advertising at £2.7bn has now overtaken the terrestrial TV stations combined in terms of ad revenue.
It is a 367 page report so lots more to come.
