An interesting set of articles on the Forbes website covering how our technology, media and culture are becoming increasingly networked. Lots of great writers like Vint Cerf ( who, as much as anyone, invented the original internet and is now Googles tech guru), there are a few interesting nuggets such as the fact that monthly internet traffic is now roughly equivalent to all the words ever spoken by all of humanity throughout history.

Some articles are pessimistic others highly optimistic but nearly all forecast a period of unprecedented change, not just in terms of media technology but at all levels of society.

Continental Digiital Convergence

Continental  Research carried out a major survey in early 2006 to quantify the new and intended behaviours of consumers with reference to emerging media platforms. As digital devices are able to reproduce a number of different media channels the classical boundaries between them are becoming increasingly blurred. There has been much hype about the potential of these technologies for some years now, we can now see the first real consumer behaviours in the field and this may well provide some direction for brands looking to gain a position in this meeting of three trillion dollar markets; consumer electronics, marketing and entertainment.
